I joined 400+ other designers in a bi-annual design competition, the One Room Challenge. It Home. I have been participating in this challenge for the past four years because its not only inspiring to compete with so many other talented designers, its also a great way to design a room. Because to be honest, my home is like the shoe makers’ kids. lol. I’m so busy designing and creating amazing spaces for clients, well, sometimes when I get home, I just want to hang out with my family.
Well, its time that my son got a makeover for his room. Having lived in the house for a year, it was time… That’s all I can say. Here’s the embarrassing before pictures just to be transparent. It also shows that I can relate to my clients when they show me their house before I design their space!!
The Ugly Before Pictures:
We moved in and unfortunately, my son’s room somehow became last priority. So I wanted to do something super special to make it up to him.
The After pics:
When I asked my son what kind of room he wanted, he responded with what he wanted he asked for a black room. That was a first for me, a black room, but I’m always up for a design challenge. He loved everything about skateparks so I decided to make a Skatepark Themed room. As with any design, its important to start with an inspiration piece. I found this very cool peel & stick graffiti wallpaper on Wayfair and that was my starting point. Everything else fell into place. Taking the colors from the graffiti wallpaper, it was easy to pick out rugs, curtains, wall decorations that fit the skatepark theme.
With alot of black paint, curtains a rug from Ikea, sk8board picture find from a local thrift shop, and scooters that no one was using, this room went from uninviting to the coolest room in the neighborhood that not only the tweenager loves, but all the neighborhood kids love too! Be careful what you wish for!!! lol
I’m really happy how the room turned out, but more importantly, my tween son was extremely happy with his bedroom makeover. Another happy client! Happy client! Happy life!
