Kitchen & Dining Room Makeover – Week 1

I am so excited to be participating in the Fall ‘22 ORC. If you’re not familiar with the One Room Challenge (ORC) it is a bi-annual design event where participants, Designers & DIYers like me, from all over the world, share the process of transforming one room over the course of 8 weeks. This is my 5th time participating.

This time is different for me because I’m actually getting my townhouse for sale. I know! Not a good time to be selling your house but it is what it is. So…. I need to offer an amazing kitchen|dining room on a reasonable budget without going crazy so that I will get my money back from the sale of my house.

I currently have the tiniest kitchen in the world. OK. Maybe there are ones smaller than mine in the world, but I’m sure the smallest in my area.

I bought this townhouse 4 years ago from an investor/couple who had rented it out. In fact, its ever only been rented out so its a complete makeover.

The demographic of my neighborhood is first time buyers, single moms or dads, so very very hip people. lol (So that would include me of course!)

I decided to go for a trendy kitchen vibe suitable for young families. Here’s my mood board below. It’s ALWAYS good to go with a mood board when designing a space so you can see what all your pieces will look like together before you start spending your money.

Here’s the embarrassing before pictures:

And there you have it. ALL the embarrassing before pictures. I think people think Designers have their house perfectly done all. the. time. but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Especially for Designers like me who buy fixer uppers to eventually sell and flip. When you buyer a fixer upper you’re living in the “before” all the time but it is rewarding in the end when you get to transform each room.

I help busy homeowners, just like you, to style their house to make it a stunning retreat, where they can live and enjoy their home. I help homeowners, make money beyond their wildest expectations from the sale of their house by guiding them when they’re getting their house ready to sell.

Hi! I’m Debi Collinson. Designer. Real Estate Investor. It all started back in 2006, where I nervously staged my very first home. But the sellers liked their newly styled home so much that they turned down an offer for full asking price, I went back to design school and the rest is history.

In my spare time, LOL, I buy “fixer uppers” to fix up & either sell for a healthy profit or to rent. I’m currently living in my 9th “fixer upper.” Sign up to receive my e-mails of how to make your home stunning, how to sell your house for top dollar AND how to become financially independent one fixer upper at a time!
