One Room Challenge - Debi Collinson Designs

Tween Boys Bedroom – ORC | Week 5

A bit of this – a bit of that

I’m SO excited to be part of the One Room Challenge again.  A huge thanks to Linda Weinstein of Calling It Home for organizing this bi-annual design challenge. The One Room Challenge is where design|bloggers around the world transform one space in their homes over 6 weeks.

This time around I decided to makeover our tween son’s bedroom because we moved into our house over a year ago and his room hasn’t been decorated.  In fact it was my work room until the One Room Challenge started!.

This week I am nervously waiting for two products to be shipped from the U.S. hoping they will be here in time for the finale.  Thanks goodness we have been given another week extension due to all the natural disasters that have occurred in the Southern States these past few months.  It has effected product deliveries and work schedules.  I didn’t think I would have an issue up here in Toronto Canada but apparently I was wrong.

I’m waiting for my street poster and hammocks.  My poster is my inspiration piece so it REALLY needs to get here before the finish!!!  The hammocks are another focal point so they need to show up on time also!!!  Patiently anxiously waiting!

In the meantime, we’re finishing painting the room black.

We bought the hardwood flooring.  Who knew that hardwood flooring was so heavy!!!

I’m not actually pushing it.  I was trying though…

Waiting 72 hours for the hardwood to climatize so that we can have our installer lay the flooring down.

Before – Ugly Tween Boys Room

This week I painted this boring Ikea laminate dresser using a gray Zinsser primer. Normally you would paint over the primer a different color but I liked the industrial feel.  I thought it was perfect for a Sk8 Park themed room.

Here’s one coat of primer on the Ikea laminate.  Doesn’t look bad if I do say so myself.

Come back next week to see more progress!

This is my forth time taking on the challenge.  The first time I redesigned our entryway.  The second time was our master bedroom including adding on a master en-suite and the third time was our family room.

Add Value to Your Home with Debi CollinsonI’m Debi Collinson. Designer. Stager. Real Estate Investor. In 2006, at the request of a realtor, I staged my very first home. Staging houses was just starting to become popular. I was very nervous staging my first house, but the sellers liked their newly redesigned home so much that they turned down an offer for full asking price. I went back to design school and have never looked back. Since 2006, I have been staging & styling spaces to make them look like they belong in a magazine page, and buying “fixer uppers” to fix up & either sell for a healthy profit or to rent them out. I’m currently living in my 8th “fixer upper.” Sign up to receive my e-mails of how to make your home stunning, how to sell your house for top dollar AND how to become financially independent one fixer upper at a time!
