Skatepark Themed Tween Boy Makeover – The Design Plan

Tween Bedroom Makeover – ORC | Week 1

I’m so excited to be part of the One Room Challenge. The One Room Challenge was created by Linda of Calling It Home who organized this bi-yearly friendly design competition where designers|bloggers around the world transform one room in their home in just 6 weeks. 6 weeks may feel like a long time to do a makeover, but the competition is fierce. The winner of the competition gets featured in House Beautiful, and becomes one of the 20 featured Designers for the next competition. Game on!!

I’ve chosen our son’s room, because quite frankly, as you can tell by the pictures below, the room is quite embarrassing for the son of a home stylist and stager to have a room like his. Its actually true what they say about the shoe maker’s kids having no shoes because he|she is so busy making shoes for everyone else. Well, its true for home stylists as well. We’re so busy making everyone else’s space Instragram worthy, that lets just say, its time for my son to have a bedroom makeover!

Check out the embarassing before pictures below. That’s all I can say. And in my defence, we moved into the house only a year ago??? lol

I apologize in advance for the poor lighting, but better lighting is only going to accentuate the negative so why bother? lol

My Inspiration Skatepark room:

Whenever you’re starting a design from scratch, you always need a piece of inspiration to start with. It could be picture from Pinterest, a piece of furniture, something from your travels, but you need to start somewhere. Otherwise it can become a hodge podge without any intention.

Gathering ideas on a design board is a great place to start when designing a room from scratch.

Starting with the wall mural as my inspiration piece, and using my two themed pictures that I found on pinterest, I was able to start pulling together various ideas and inspiration for the room. Next on the agenda was the color scheme which would help me choose items that fit into that theme.

 My color scheme:

These colors below will be used for the walls, bedding and furniture.

It’s going to be alot of fun creating a skateboard room.  It’s a surprise for our son. He knows he’s getting a room makeover but doesn’t know what it’s going to look like.  I can’t wait to see his face at the big reveal!

Please check back next week and see the progress to date!

Hi! I’m Debi Collinson. Home Stylist. Stager. Color Consultant. Real Estate Investor. It all started back in 2006, at the request of a realtor, where I nervously staged my very first home. But the sellers liked their newly styled home so much that they turned down an offer for full asking price. I went back to design school and the rest is history. — In my spare time, LOL, I buy “fixer uppers” to fix up & either sell for a healthy profit or to rent. I’m currently living in my 8th “fixer upper.” Sign up to receive my e-mails of how to make your home stunning, how to sell your house for top dollar AND how to become financially independent one fixer upper at a time!
