Skateboard Teen Bedroom Makeover

As your son grows from a child to a tweenager, their teddy bear or dinosaur themed room is no longer appropriate and you may wonder why your son is no longer inviting his friends over.  Maybe he’s embarrassed about his room.  Maybe its time for a change.  After all, you want your son to be happy to invite his friends over to hang out in a “cool” space.

In our case, we had just moved into a new house. In our last house, our tween had a race car theme that he was quickly outgrowing. We never quite got around to doing his room in his new bedroom so unfortunately, it was not set up at all, and it was not a space where he could invite friends over.

Not that I needed a challenge to get going on his room, LOL, but the bi-annual design competition, the One Room Challenge came around and I thought it was perfect to enter my son’s room in this challenge. Its a bi-annual challenge where 400+ designer/bloggers and 20 designers race like madmen and madwomen for 6 weeks to outdo themselves and show off our progress, or lack thereof, on our blogs and Instagram feeds.

This boy’s room was ready for a makeover.  The tween had been sleeping on a mattress in his bedroom.  The tween loved everything to do with sk8parks so making a sk8park bedroom was an obvious choice!

It’s hard to believe its the same room! With alot of black paint, curtains & a rug from Ikea, sk8board picture find from a local thrift shop, and scooters that no one was using, this room went from uninviting to the coolest room in the neighborhood that not only does my teen love his new room, but all the neighborhood kids love too! Be careful what you wish for!!!

Hi! I’m Debi Collinson. Home Stylist. Stager. Real Estate Investor. It all started back in 2006, at the request of a realtor, where I nervously staged my very first home. But the sellers liked their newly styled home so much that they turned down an offer for full asking price. I went back to design school and the rest is history. — In my spare time, LOL, I buy “fixer uppers” to fix up & either sell for a healthy profit or to rent. I’m currently living in my 8th “fixer upper.” Sign up to receive my e-mails of how to make your home stunning, how to sell your house for top dollar AND how to become financially independent one fixer upper at a time!
