Does Crown Moulding Add Value to a Home?
Most people know that renovating your home adds value to it. But the big question is which renovations? Is crown moulding one of those renovations?
YES crown moulding typically does add value. It is viewed as an expensive upgrade but it cost less than it looks. It can set your house apart from other homes in your neighborhood. BUT if all the other homes in your area have crown moulding and yours doesn’t, and you’re just “catching up” to everyone else, it won’t actually “add” to the value. You will just be levelling out the playing field.
If the crown moulding is installed properly it can really make the room pop. However, the rest of the room needs to show well in order to get the best price possible e.g. nice baseboards, new or refinished flooring and trendy paint colors. If everything else in the room needs an update, the new crown moulding will just look out of place.

Now that you have decided to do crown moulding in your living room and hallway for example, what should you choose? MDF, wood or polyurthane? Smooth or patterned? Narrow or wide?

Crown moulding is one of the less-expensive upgrades homeowners can do when it comes to materials. It’s harder to install than it looks. If you’re not handy and don’t think you can make it look professional, then hire a professional to do it. Any renovation done improperly, detracts from the value of the home, not add to it.
